Katy and Mike got married at Black Barn Tuahiwi, in Lake Tarawera. Katy’s brief was ‘pretty pastels but with a pop of dark colour’ so we chose a beautiful deep burgundy to really highlight the softer pastel tones.
Black Barn Tuahiwi is such a beautiful venue and one of our favourites to work at. Katy and Mike wanted something floral to mark their ceremony spot, so we created a beautiful altar of florals – it was about hip height and was created to complement the drop-dead gorgeous backdrop of Lake Tarawera. We also created gorgeous bouquets and boutonnieres, and popped sprigs of foliage on each place setting.
We used all New Zealand roses, hydrangeas, chrysanthemum and dahlias. For that deep pop of dark colour we used scabiosa. We also used lots of locally-grown cafe au lait dahlias – we love when we get to use local produce as it’s more sustainable and helps keep our local industry thriving.
We loved working on Katy and Mike’s wedding and the feeling was mutual. Here’s what Katy had to say not long after their wedding – ‘Seriously Shaye, we cannot thank you enough!
