Welcome to On My Hand

Stemming from an adoration of beautiful botanicals, naturally creative flair and an eye for                  detail, ON MY HAND styling & flora was born.

Founder Shaye Woolford has always loved to create an atmosphere; in the past through a medium of food during her time in the hospitality industry, and now focusing on setting a scene.  A polish of florals, the selection of lighting and props.  This is what guests see on arrival.  Add people, music, food and drink, now you have an event.

At On My Hand we believe Mother Nature is the greatest artist and we try to emulate what she creates in our florals, through to the selection of tableware.

Since 2011, On My Hand has been involved in universal events both corporate and personal. Whether you need advice from the get go, or someone to simply step in to add those finishing touches to your event, On My Hand can enhance anything from small and intimate occasions to weddings, with floral arrangements, prop sourcing and completely unique styling.

With backgrounds spanning the highly demanding hospitality industry and the innovative flair of the arts, organisation, communication and innovation allows the team at On My Hand to stay one step ahead.

On My Hand are passionate about what they do and have the ability to turn the ordinary into exceptional. Each event is styled with sustainability and creativity in mind, to ensure your occasion is truly memorable.

A dedicated group of designers

Owner, Stylist & Floral designer

Shaye Woolford founded On My Hand in 2011 after seeing a gap in the market for alternative event hire. Since launching the prop hire business, the company then evolved to what it is today; with Shaye finding her passion and forming a career in event styling & floral design. With a 10 year background in the hospitality industry, Shaye believes this experience provides a solid foundation for the business today. Shaye thrives in a challenging, fast paced environment – a busy kitchen is not dissimilar to wedding season! Her strong connection to providing memorable experiences for guests ensures the impressive execution of each of her events. Shaye’s strength is to instinctively draw out a client’s personal style, curating the vision to something that is not only innovative but still true to her own brand. Shaye has a strong focus on solid communication with clients, and her commitment to nurturing the relationships with her collection of valued suppliers, growers and venue owners are pivotal to the success of her projects. Living in Tauranga and is married with two beautiful children, she is building her second home with her husband and on her days off loves to lunch with friends, visit the farmers market or go foraging to create arrangements purely for fun.

Assistant floral designer

Lee works alongside Shaye as an assistant senior floral stylist. She has worked in the floristry industry for 20+ years both here in New Zealand and abroad. Her journey into the world of flowers started from a young age, pressing flowers between books and making daisy chains from her grandmothers garden. She was encouraged by her grandmother who saw her creative spark, and Lee followed in her footsteps, entering the floristry industry straight from school. She trained under the umbrella of the New Zealand Society of Professional Florists and Interflora as well as being apprenticed, learning on the job. Throughout the years she has worked in many different floristry roles and seen many floristry trends come and go, however her passion for the industry has never dimmed. Lee loves working with the vast array of flowers and foliage each season brings and gets great satisfaction from the joy of each creation. She adores working with flowers and foliage which is different and not run-of-the-mill which at OMH she is spoilt for choice! Lee loves the natural, unconfined, wild and garden inspired floral designs that we do here, and Shaye's vision for our clients. Lee has a love of nature, particularly the beach, so when she’s not immersed in flower arranging you are most likely to find her at the Mount, enjoying the coastline with her husband and three children.

Studio Assistant

Amy moved to the sunny Bay of Plenty with her husband and daughter, Penelope, in January 2016 and joined the team at On My Hand shortly after. Amy is our Studio Assistant, she is our logistics queen and also wears the in-house designer apron. Amy studied Design and Psychology at the University of Otago, and also holds a Certificate in Interior Decor from Unitec. She followed her nose into the creative world after graduating, starting in the print industry, and dabbled with freelance graphic design work on the side. She eventually moved more towards interior styling and event work. Amy is naturally attracted to creative work roles and also had a passion for flowers since her own wedding (her favourite design brief so far) so the fit was right when she saw the Studio Assistant role advertised. She's a methodical and 'to do' list type of person so the role fits all aspects of her personality. She’s lots of things I’m not; meticulous with admin, determined to finish something she starts even if she wants to throw the computer out the window, and she is still learning the multitude there is to know about flowers or gardening (and so I love to teach her things whenever I get the chance!). She takes my entrepreneurial ideas and runs with them, she’s bang on the OMH page and enjoys food just as much as I do!

A few key words on your event style

  • “I sent through a bunch of ideas to Shaye via Pinterest and hoped she would be able to make sense of it all – not only did she take my vision but turned it into a beautiful creation!! She made beautiful yet understated olive leaf flower crowns for the bridesmaids which completely transformed their look. She also made incredible floral chandeliers that hung in the marquee we got married under – it didn’t matter that it was pouring down outside as the marquee looked really magical with the chandeliers. And the bouquets were gorgeous – Shaye managed to source everything that I was looking for that was in season, and was so friendly, helpful and professional. It was a dream to leave my wedding flowers in her hands! Thank you so so much for exceeding all expectations xx” – Angelina Boyd

  • “Hiring Shaye and her team for our wedding was one of the best decisions we made. ‘Garden floral’ was the main theme of the wedding and we wanted extensive flower decorations in our marquee and the venue, but given we had very little knowledge of types of flowers and didn’t want to be busy decorating on the day, we wanted someone who we could rely on could style the venue on the day and create bouquets with little guidance from me. Shaye was the perfect fit for this – her style is incredible, she knew the venue and its owners well (Ataahua Garden in Tauranga), knew exactly how everything there worked, managed to distill my vague comments and ideas into a clear theme and created beautiful perfect bouquets that were my exact vision. Shaye also went above and beyond to source peonies in January from a supplier at the other end of the country, which was a really special touch.

As it turned out, booking Shaye was a lifesaver as it rained heavily on the day and we had to do some changes to the location for the ceremony / reception drinks on the morning of the wedding.  However, Shaye was an absolute star and was completely unfazed with the short notice and change of plan and styled a new alter and a new reception area (which was not in the original plan) with amazing florals to create a beautiful atmosphere.  This took all the stress away from me as I knew i was in safe hands.

Arriving at the venue and seeing the beautiful flowers everywhere and how well she had prepared the new venues was one of the highlights of my whole day. Looking back, it was incredibly great value for money for the flowers, Shaye’s time beforehand, and valuable time on the day setting up. She is highly professional and great to work with and I would definitely recommend her to anyone!” – Bridget Bailey

  • “Shaye is a bride’s dream stylist and florist. She is so fun to work with and has incredible style and knowledge. From the planning through to the execution, everything went seamlessly and I enjoyed every minute of it. When the bouquets and flower crowns arrived on the day they literally took my breath away. The venue looked absolutely amazing and we had so many compliments about it. I would highly recommend Shaye for any wedding. She just knows how to create a wedding that really compliments the bride and grooms personality and style.”  – Grace Havill

  • “Shaye and her clever team did the florals and styling for my spring wedding at Ataahua garden venue. I myself have worked in the wedding industry for a few years now doing Hair and Makeup so I have seen a fair few weddings. I knew when it came to my big day I really wanted it to be personalised to my style, I’ve always had a dream of using orchids and lots of them!

I pitched all of my ideas to Shaye and she executed them beautifully, she actually over exceeded all of my expectations! I knew the venue would look amazing but what Shaye did was really transform the venue into something magical.

All of my guests commented on how “Me” it looked which as a bride just made my heart sing!
A guest said to me on the day “I have been to many weddings at this venue and yours has really been set apart from the rest” This made me feel so accomplished because I love to be a little bit different and unique!

Being a creative myself I can confess to being a little bit of a perfectionist and all about the aesthetic details – Shaye really listened and brought my dream together at the end of the day as a bride that’s all you want!

It really made our wedding spectacular and we can’t thank OMH enough for their efforts in making our day extra special and personalised” – Josh & Fiona Goddard
